The poll is an annual shindig run by an ethnic Asian magazine in the UK. In a sweeping statement Katrina was voted ‘Sexiest Asian Woman Alive’ for 2008. With this she pushes Bipasha Basu (last year’s winner) to second spot. Priyanka Chopra, who wowed everyone with her perfect curves in a gold swimsuit recently, came in third and Kareena’s lemony swimwear act got her fourth place in a poll dominated by our Bollywood desi girls. Evergreen beauty Aishwarya Rai’s marriage did nothing to dim her appeal, as she came in seventh.
New entrants to this local ’sexiest list’ included Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat (9), Pantaloon’s Femina Miss India Universe Simran Kaur Mundi (10), former Miss Sri Lanka Jacqueline Fernandez (12) and South Indian and Ghajini star Asin (22). Katrina was overjoyed at the result, but was her usual shy ‘n’ modest self when we congratulated her. Asia’s sexiest woman said, “It feels good when a fan based or a viewer based community votes for you and thinks that you are good. This particular poll is pretty popular among the Asian community in the UK. I was floored and I am grateful to all those who voted for me. It’s great”.
We did ask her how she related to the word ’sexy’ now, after ‘beautiful’. She laughed, “I guess sexy is just another adjective when people like you. I take it was a compliment”. How would other ‘displaced’ beauties feel? Kat says, “On! It is just part of a process. The industry is a happy family. We are all happy for each other. Next year I may be down a notch or vice versa. It is nice to be voted but it should not go to anyone’s head. I am sure everyone feels like that”. Katrina Kaif can also be called the most ‘downloaded’ actress on the internet. She is seconded by none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan followed by cricketer M S Dhoni. The beautiful actress is the hot favorite not only in India but internationally too. Bipasha Basu Spells Her Magic Again!
Bips aka Bipasha Basu is all set to cast her “jaadu and nasha”on screen once again. This time it is in Sanjay Gupta’s ankh directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay. Interestingly, Bipasha is a mere fantasy of the 20-year-old protagonist Jerry (Maradona Rebello) and does not actually exist in the film. Explaining the complexity of the story director Chattopadhyay said, “Bipasha is Jerry’s fantasy who exists only his mind. She is his alter-ego and loves to provoke him at a drop of her hat”. Sudipto further explains, “The character of Jerry is very complexed. The film shows him as a famous child artiste who crossed dressed as a girl. Thus he is confused about his identity. There’s a song, Jiya na Jala, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, where he fantasizes Bipasha seducing him, creating confusion in his mind about his real identity whether he is a man, woman or an eunuch. But Bipasha seduces him completely and is his sexual fantasy. Bipasha is his only solace from the ugly reality of life”. The director reveals that he and designers Rocky S and Gavin Miguel worked hard on Bipasha’s look in the film. “We wanted Bipasha to look like a Diva a la Sophia Loren and Liza Minelli in Cabaret. Also we had lengthy discussions on the scenes.
And during the shoot Bipasha got so in with her character that as if she was visible only to Jerry and completely unaware of the actor’s presence on the sets. Her entire attitude and behaviour while playing the character made the entire experience very interesting”.
